I wanted to like Google+, but the way they forced it into YouTube ticked me off.
I remember being 13 and just wanting to use YouTube but I had to have google+ 🤷

Isn’t character limits an instance setting?
You can modify the code but there’s no “setting” in vanilla Mastodon. The request has been denied by Mr. Rochko himself, despite protests from the greater community.
you can modify the limit settings in the /validators/status_length_validator.rb file and reboot mastodon :) i did that and now i have 1000 char limit
Yes, that is what I said.
Character limits are a feature, not a bug. I liked the limit of 160 characters (with tags) on Twitter. It’s because of SMS, but called for brevity and clarity.
